Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint (in fiery)

Purchased at Sephora for $24.

Ok, first things first, I’m an idiot and thought this would be equivalent to a lip stain. WRONG. It’s not. Now that we have that out of the way…

This stuff smells great! It has a very natural, almost minty smell, and it tingles a little bit when you put it on. With this product, Tarte tried to solve that age old problem of matte colors drying out the lips. And I think they were mostly successful! The pigment is a nice, solid pigment… but not as bold as a traditional lipstick. I don’t know if I could call it a true matte, it does have a very small amount of shine to it, but it’s definitely minimal.

It does seem to last a good long while. I’ve had it on up to three hours before I ate or drank anything. It does come off on straws, cups, napkins… which isn’t a big deal, once I figured out it wasn’t a lip stain.

I LOVE the color I got (always looking for a good red!), but even though it’s not as drying as MOST mattes, it did dry my lips out a bit. The smell and feel are so nice though, you really want to keep reapplying!

I would give this a 3 out 5. I feel like it’s pretty pricey for what it is. I’ve purchased something REALLY similar in a drug store for 1/3 of that. The pigment of this is a lot more intense though. I also didn’t like the little bit of drying is caused.

(Only applied to bottom lip in picture to try and show color intensity.)
